Hurricane Beryl Damages Many Along Its Path and Now Threatens Texas Coast: Urgent Calls for Prayers
As Hurricane Beryl intensifies and barrels toward the Texas coastline, communities are bracing for impact. Forecasted to make landfall early tomorrow morning, this hurricane that had been downgraded to a tropical storm has become stronger and is once again a hurricane and has prompted widespread preparations and calls for solidarity across the region. Hurricane Beryl, has already demonstrated its destructive potential in the Caribbean and in Mexico, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. We have many sister churches in the Caribbean, in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, and in the state of Texas where the hurricane is headed on Monday. Please be in prayer for: * those who have lost loved ones; * all of our brothers and sisters in Christ that have been personally impacted; * the first responders who will courageously assist, risking their own safety to ensure the welfare of others; * those that are left without employment, businesses and without homes; * all of those who have been affected in any way and that they find strength, resilience, and support in each other during this challenging period. In times like these, unity and compassion are paramount. Thanks for having compassion and for joining them in prayer. (If you know anyone in the affected areas and know of specific things they need or would like us to pray for, please email: community@sfbayfellowship.com) |

Our Visit to San Luis Obispo (SLO)
Kip and Bethany Harms have been some of our best friends for over 35 years. God knit our hearts and lives together back when we were all serving in the UMass Campus Ministry in Boston in the late 80's. Anne and I have been loved, helped, encouraged, and inspired by the Harms for years - ever since we planted the church in Honolulu together 35 years ago, and through all our ups and downs, and ministry moves ever since. So, it should be no surprise that we have enjoyed being close to them and their church family in San Luis Obispo these past few years.
When Kip and Bethany announced their plan earlier this year to retire from the ministry and relocate to New Mexico, we grabbed as much time with them as we could in the remaining months. Beyond praying for them and wishing them well in their next chapter, we also reassured them that we would do what we could to help and encourage the 101 Christian Church in their absence.
Their leadership group invited Anne and I to come spend a weekend with them two weeks ago in June. It was so refreshing to see the faith and love of their fellowship, and to feel the close connection that comes from our common bond in Christ and with the Harms! We felt their humility and eagerness to want to learn how to navigate this season of being without a full-time ministry leader. Their example of working together, serving selflessly, and being quick to listen while drawing on the varied strengths of each other reminded Anne and I of our fellowship group leaders here in the SF Bay Fellowship. We commended them and told them it felt like they would fit-in naturally with the spirit of our group!
We closed-out our weekend with a great potluck lunch and time of sharing lessons we are learning here in the Bay Area. They expressed their vision for relying on the Spirit to help them build on the great foundation that has been laid, and we extended an offer of ongoing fellowship and support from the SF Bay Fellowship.
Please be in prayer for our sister church, the 101 Christian Church and that the Spirit helps them in tremendouws ways to build on the great foundation that has been laid.
